Counter Strike Weapons Guide: Sniper Rifles

Sniper Rifles are one of the most used weapons in the globally popular first person shooter video game developed by Valve Corporation – Counter Strike. These rifles are one of the most specialized long-range guns available in CS. Unlike its counterpart, Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles are only really good to be used over long distance and sneak attacks. There are many kinds of Sniper Rifles available: non-automatic, semi-automatic, and automatic sniper rifles. All those kinds are the same with their telescopic sights and very powerful firepower. In fact, some Sniper Rifles like the AWP has been banned on many servers because they pack too much firepower. You need to remember, however, that when buying Sniper Rifles you also have to buy a pistol for close quarter combats as the former would not be much use to short-range fights.

At $2750, this Austrian 7.62 NATO caliber weapon is the cheapest sniper rifle available in CS. The Scout has a usable scope and has 2200 joules of muzzle energy and 2800 feet per second of muzzle velocity. It is a highly accurate sniper even when you are on the move (crouching or walking only as you cannot shoot someone while running and jumping). Furthermore, if you are very good at using rifles and is accurate enough then the 10 rounds of magazine capacity should suffice your needs. If you are not accurate then the Scout is definitely not for you to use. Many CS players believe that the Scout is a professional gun intended to be used by professionals that are great in handling guns and are very accurate. The Scout is a great sniper rifle but it is also the one that does the least damage to your opponents. It would take you at least two good body shots or a clear head shot to kill your opponent. Moreover, the Scout is bolt action which means you have to cock it after every shot which really takes time. But if you are lacking the cash and is only capable of buying the Scout then it should suffice for that level.

SG-550 Commando

This Switzerland 5.56 NATO caliber counter-terrorist only sniper rifles is for a price of $4200. It does not come cheap but what you will get for that amount is 1650 joules of muzzle energy and 3100 feet per second of muzzle velocity. In addition to those, the SG-550 Commando also has a built-in usable scope and can accommodate up to 30 rounds of magazine content. The SG-550 Commando is an auto-sniper and has been banned on several servers across the globe. It is very similar to the H&K G3/SG-1 with its 2 levels of zoom and some technical specifications. However, it is less powerful, less accurate, and is priced $800 cheaper. Compare to the H&K G3/SG-1, this CT weapon fires faster and is very ideal to be used in the early levels on when fighting with beginner bots. Remember to fire only one to two shots at a time because the SG-550 Commando will fall quite greatly. Allow time to pause before re-aiming the sniper to your opponent.

H&K G3/SG-1 Sniper Rifle

Originating in Germany and developed by Heckler & Koch, this terrorist only sniper rifle is the most expensive rifle in CS and the second most expensive gun in CS; costing each player $5000. It is a 7.62 NATO caliber rifle with 20 rounds of magazine capacity and capable of catapulting a bullet with its muzzle energy of 2200 joules and a velocity of 2800 feet per second. It is banned from many servers due to the fact that it is an auto-sniper. However, you should know that even if it is an auto-sniper, fire after fire, the accuracy of the gun considerably lessens. Use this in open spaces and crouch and use the zoom function to maximize the gun’s capacity. Never use it in close quarter combats.

AWP (Arctic Warfare Police)

This sniper rifle from Accuracy Intl. in UK is the largest and most powerful rifle in CS that could kill an enemy in just one shot. It is also the second most expensive sniper rifle in CS costing players $4750. What you will get is a .338 Lapua Magnum caliber rifle with 10 rounds magazine capacity and dual-optic scope. Furthermore, it has an astonishing 7000 joules of muzzle energy and 7000 feet per second muzzle velocity. The scope equipped in the AWP is very detailed and proficient that you can get out of any situation unscathed. You should know that the AWP is banned from most servers so if your server permits it, then use it very well. Use this sniper rifle with a pistol for faster chamber time.
