World of Warcraft Weapons Guide: Crossbows – Part 1

Crossbows belong to the ranged weapons type of items in World of Warcraft. It sits on the same level as bows, guns, and other thrown weapons. Hunters, warriors, and rogues can all use ranged weapons especially crossbows and they can also train to use these weapons but the classes of Death Knight, Druids, Paladins, and Shamans cannot use ranged weapons because they have the Relic item which takes the place of ranged weapons in their hands. Crossbows (like Guns and Bows) are slower compared to other ranged weapons but they inflict a greater damage than all the other ranged WoW items. So, here are some of Crossbows that you might use in the game. Some of the listed items here are powerful and others will require you to take extra care of them. Here is the list.

Archer’s Crossbow

Added in patch 2.0.1, the Archer’s Crossbow has gained quite a reputation (a good one at that) in the game. It is not that powerful but when it comes to random enchantments, the Archer’s Crossbow is truly a league above all others. Plus, this WoW item really delivers a striking blow to its target thanks to its accuracy. The Archer’s Crossbow is a level 99 item that will bind to characters in the 63rd level when equipped. In this event, this WoW crossbow will increase the character’s agility by 14, intellect by 15, spirit by 14, strength by 14, and stamina by 21 points. Aside from those, the Archer’s Crossbow will also increase the hit rating of the character by as much as 7 and critical strike rating by 7 points also. It is a capable weapon but not as powerful as other crossbows and certainly is not up to par with some of the greatest bows that you can buy in the game. Its speed is at 2.70 and it can inflict 127-238 total health damage or 67.5 damage per second to its target. The Archer’s Crossbow suffers one drawback though – durability. This WoW item is certainly not durable so extra caution and care must be executed. It is sold for 5 Gold and 65 Silver and was dropped by about 93 characters (including NPCs); the characters include:

Arugoo’s Crossbow of Destruction

Arugoo’s Crossbow of Destruction is a reward from the quest titled “The Prophecy of Akida” which requires level 8 players. The item level of the Arugoo’s Crossbow of Destruction (level 12) is a good indication of its performance – that is, it is not powerful. Added in patch 2.0.1, this WoW item will bind to characters when picked up. It has a speed of 2.80 but could only induce 8.5 damage per second or from 18 to 29 total health damage to its target. Moreover, when it binds, it will increase the agility of the character by just 1 points. The Arugoo’s Crossbow of Destruction is the same model as:

  • Truestrike Crossbow (level 115 item, level 70 players)
  • Barreled Crossbow (level 114 item, level 68 players)
  • Citadel Crossbow (level 90 item, level 60 players)
  • Crossbow of the Hand (level 20 item, level 18 players)
  • Expedition Repeater (level 93 item, level 61 players)
  • Ironstar Repeater (level 81 item, level 58 players)
  • Ram’s Head Crossbow (level 84 item, level 58 players)
  • Crossbow of the Albatross (level 10 item, level 5 players)
  • Draenic Light Crossbow (level 71 item, level 60 players)

Assassins’ Silent Crossbow

Assassins’ Silent Crossbow is not a very powerful weapon in WoW. However, it is powerful enough to stand most battles and let its user emerge victorious. This WoW item was added in patch 2.0.1 and is sold for 4 Gold, 95 Silver, and 12 Bronze. It is a level 108 item that will bind when equipped to characters that can reach the level 66. When it binds, it will increase the character’s agility by 16, intellect by 16, spirit by 16, strength by 16, and stamina by as much as 24 points. Furthermore, the Assassins’ Silent Crossbow will also improve the critical strike rating of the character by 8 and hit rating by also 8 points. Aside from those, the Assassin’s Silent Crossbow has a rated speed of 2.70 which is pretty OK for a crossbow. Its damage infliction prowess is also good as it can induce 75.2 damage per second orfrom 142to 264 total health damage to its victims. However, the drawback of this WoW item is that it is not that durable. In fact, if we compare its power and random enchantments to its durability, they certainly do not match or even be appropriate for its item level. However, this World of Warcraft item is still good to use for most battles. This item was dropped by 120 characters including:

  • Korgaah at Blade’s Edge Mountains
  • Fingrom at Blade’s Edge Mountains
